Viking Crown was a heavy metal band formed as a side project by Phil Anselmo in 1994. The group initially featured Anselmo, credited under the pseudonym Anton Crowley, handling vocals, guitars, bass, and drums. Their first release was an EP titled Unorthodox Steps of Ritual (1999), which set the tone for their dark, lo-fi black metal sound. Subsequent releases included collaborations with Necrophagia frontman Killjoy on vocals and Anselmo's then-wife Stephanie Opal Weinstein on keyboards. The band released the album, Banished Rhythmic Hate, in 2001. Despite their unique approach to metal, internal conflicts led to the project's dissolution.
