Exotic Animal Petting Zoo was an experimental mathcore band formed in 2004 and based in Crown Point, Indiana. The group initially released a five-song demo before recruiting Scott Certa as their permanent bassist in 2005. This led to the recording of their first EP and subsequent signing with Mediaskare Records. Their debut album, I Have Made My Bed In Darkness, was released in 2008. The band's second album, Tree Of Tongues, followed in 2012. Exotic Animal Petting Zoo toured with acts such as Fear Before and Dead Letter Circus. Following the departure of guitarist Jeffrey Zampillo in 2012, the band went quiet but performed a limited number of shows in 2017. The band's guitarist and drummer, Brandon and Stephen Carr, announced their new project, Spy Balloon, in 2024, confirming Exotic Animal Petting Zoo's disbandment.
