KwaMashu-born Rikhado Makhado, popularly known as Riky Rick, is an accomplished producer, writer, rapper and actor. Riky, who was introduced to the music industry in a recording studio session with Bongani Fassie, has had a phenomenal year and has enjoyed major succes with hit singles “Nafukwa”, “Amantombazane” and most recently “Boss Zonke”.
Ricky is a sought after music producer for artists like Cassper Nyovest, L-Tido and DJ Dimplez. He writes, composes, produces and creates sounds for his own brand of music which is a fusion of local kwaito and hip hop.
It was during his time at boarding school that Riky began expressing his passion for music. He started a rap club with friends and began his journey in the entertainment industry, which later led him to AFDA where he studied film production. The insights that Riky gained from studying film production has seen him shooting numerous groundbreaking music videos and documentaries for South African artists, as well as shooting his own videos in unconventional locations like the canals of Amsterdam and a mining site in South Africa.
Riky is equally talented in front of the camera and has featured in fashion spreads for brands ranging from NIKE to Ben Sherman. Also an accomplished actor, he recently featured on DStv's popular drama, ISIBAYA, where he played the role of slick music producer "Mandellic".
With two nominations for the 2014 Channel O awards and four nominations for the 2014 South African Hip Hop Awards, this talent is undoubtedly destined for great things.
Riky Rick’s debut album titled “Family Values” will be released on 3 April 2015.
