Karl-Birger Blomdahl, born October 19, 1916, in Växjö, Sweden, was a Swedish composer and conductor. Early compositions included Trio pour cuivres (1938) and Quatuor à cordes No. 1 (1939). A breakthrough came with orchestral works like Symphonie nº 1 (1943) and Symphonie nº 2 (1947), establishing Blomdahl in Swedish classical music. A career featured significant compositions across genres, notably the opera Aniara (1958), based on a poem by Harry Martinson. Other key works included Herr von Hancken (1962) and the oratorio Anabase (1959). Blomdahl also composed film scores for Gycklarnas afton (1953) and Så börjar livet (1965). Other notable works included Symphonie nº 3, Facetter (1950) and the ballet Sisyfos (1954). Blomdahl passed away on June 14, 1968, in Kungsängen.
