Joby Valente, born Marguerite Valentine Dersion on July 20, 1939, in Fonds-Saint-Denis, Martinique, is a French singer and actress. In 1969, Valente received training at the Music-Hall school of L'Olympia. Her breakthrough came with the release of the album Disk La Rayé and its title track "Disk La Rayé" in 1998, a cover of Damirón y Chapuseaux's "El Disco Rayao". Throughout her career, she released other albums including Respecté Fanm La in 2011 and Jen Kon Vye in 2014. Valente also appeared in various films such as Under the Cherry Moon directed by Prince.
