Jeroen Van Herzeele, a Belgian jazz saxophonist, flautist, and composer, was born on September 13, 1965, in Zottegem. He studied at the Antwerp Jazz Studio under Dave Pike, Peter Hertmans, and John Ruocco, and attended workshops led by Joe Lovano, Dave Liebman, Steve Grossman, and Bill Pierce. In 1997, Van Herzeele joined Laurent Blondiau's avant-garde jazz band Mâäk’s Spirit. He also performed with Bo Van der Werf's band Octurn, appearing at the North Sea Jazz Festival in 1994 and the Montreal Jazz Festival in 1997. Van Herzeele led his own acid-jazz band Greetings from Mercury and released his debut album At the Crossroads in 1995 with his trio. He collaborated with notable artists such as Toots Thielemans, Philip Catherine, David Linx, and Nathalie Loriers. Van Herzeele received the Django d’Or (Belgium) in 1999.
