Jack or Jive, a Japanese electronic and experimental rock group founded in Osaka in 1989 by vocalist Chako and musician Makoto Hattori. The duo began recording at home, releasing the cassette Expatriation in 1990. Their first studio album, Prayer, appeared in 1991 on German independent label Dradomel, followed by Mujyo in 1992. The duo’s sound, dominated by synth layers, piano, and Chako’s bilingual vocals, expanded through collaborations with Christoph Heeman, Francesco Banchini, and Alio Die, producing albums such as Soleil (2002) and Mei‑Jyu (2005). Other releases like Kismet (2000), The Earth (1999), Kenka (1996), and Kakugo (2008), released on labels like Prikosnovénie and Drag & Drop Elves, solidified the band’s presence on the European independent circuit.
