Liverpool Five was an English beat group formed in London in 1963 as the Steve Laine Combo. The group was part of the British Invasion era of the 1960s and featured lead vocalist Steve Laine, Ken Cox, Dave Burgess, Ron Henley, and Jimmy May. The band later renamed to capitalize on the popularity of The Beatles. Their first release under the new name was the single “Tokio / Skinny Minny” (1964) and the album Tokio International (1965). In 1965, the band relocated to the United States and signed with RCA Victor to release the albums Arrive (1966) and Out of Sight (1967). The single “Any Way That You Want Me / the Snake” peaked at number 98 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1966. Liverpool Five toured extensively and shared stages with The Lovin' Spoonful, Stevie Wonder, The Kinks, and The Rolling Stones. They also performed at the Hollywood Bowl during the Beach Boys Summer Spectacular. The group disbanded in 1968 after a final single was released under the name Common Market. The band’s catalog was reissued in 1999, and 2008, and reunion concerts were held in 2010 and 2016 to celebrate the 70th birthdays of Laine and Cox.
