Martriden is an American progressive black and death metal band from Havre, Montana, United States, formed in 2001 by brothers Shane Howard and Kyle Howard, along with Will Thackeray. Initially known as Pale Horse, the band underwent several lineup changes before settling on the name Martriden, derived from Nordic mythology. Their debut EP Martriden was released in 2006 via Siege of Amida Records. The following year, they recorded their first full-length album, The Unsettling Dark, which was released by Candlelight Records in 2008 and followed by a two-month US tour. In 2010, Martriden self-released their second album, Encounter the Monolith. Five years later, they released Cold and the Silence (2015) independently. The band's music is characterized by its blend of death metal with elements from black metal and progressive metal, often incorporating atmospheric and symphonic components.
