James Ellis Ford, born on December 11, 1978 in Staffordshire, England, is a record producer and songwriter. He attended Manchester University with other members of Simian Mobile Disco. Ford was a founding member of the group Simian and later joined the spin-off duo Simian Mobile Disco. He produced the album Myths of the Near Future for Klaxons in 2007, which won the Mercury Prize. That same year, he produced Arctic Monkeys' second album. Ford formed The Last Shadow Puppets with Miles Kane and Alex Turner in 2008, serving as both drummer and producer. Their debut album, The Age of the Understatement, earned a Mercury Prize nomination and charted at Number 1 in the UK. In 2023, Ford released his solo album The Hum on Warp Records. Throughout his career, he produced albums for notable artists including Depeche Mode, Blur, Florence and the Machine, Gorillaz, and Pet Shop Boys.
