Lucious Brinson Johnson, born on August 30, 1934, in Davisboro, Georgia, was an American Chicago blues and electric blues guitarist, singer, and songwriter who performed under the names Luther “Georgia Boy” Johnson and Luther “Snake” Johnson. After teaching himself guitar and serving in the U.S. Army, he formed a blues trio in Milwaukee before moving to Chicago in the early 1960s. He backed Elmore James until 1963 and joined Muddy Waters’ band in 1966, recording his debut album Come on Home in 1968. In 1970, he relocated to Boston and released Born in Georgia (1972), Chicken Shack (1974), Lonesome in My Bedroom (1975) and Get Down to the Nitty Gritty (1976). He died of cancer in Boston on March 18, 1976, and was buried at Mount Hope Cemetery.
