Danny Schmidt, born on October 7 , 1970, in Austin, Texas, is an American singer‑songwriter whose early exposure to blues and folk shaped his songwriting style. He began playing guitar at twelve and discovered influences such as Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, and Neil Young, leading to his first public performances in Charlottesville, Virginia. His debut album, Live at the Prism Coffeehouse (1999), was followed by Enjoying the Fall (2001) and Make Right the Time (2003). In 2005, he released Parables & Primes, and his 2008 record Little Grey Sheep reached Number 1 on the Folk DJ Charts for February. His 2009 album Instead the Forest Rose to Sing achieved Number 1 status in March and April, while Man of Many Moons (2011) ranked number 3 in February. His work earned a 2007 Kerrville Folk Festival New Folk award and multiple chart successes in the folk‑DJ community. He signed with Red House Records for his 2009 and 2011 releases and later issued Standard Deviation (2019) under Live Once Records.
