Steve Poindexter, born in 1965 in Chicago, Illinois, is an American house music producer and DJ. He began DJing at Mendel High School parties at age ten and later experimented with drum machines, producing the 1989 single "Work That Mutha Fucker" on his own Muzique Records, a track that helped define early ghetto house. Poindexter released the EP EP in 1996, followed by "Whiplash/Emergency" in 2004 and Music from Mathematics in 2009. Subsequent releases included The State of Shock EP in 2010 and Street Fighter EP in 2015.
