Singer, songwriter, producer, actor, and director Mak Yun-ran – born in British Hong Kong on March 18, 1984 – is better known by his stage name Juno Mak (English name: Bobby Mak). He is the son of CCT Fortis Holdings Limited chairman Clement Mak, which raised issues during the early part of Juno Mak’s career. After signing with Universal Music, he released the EPs On the Road (2002) and Next Step (2003). Both EPs were successful, but rumors circulated that his father’s money had been used as bribery in order to further his son’s career. After dealing with a small backlash, Juno Mak left Universal Music and signed with the Silly Thing label. He changed his image and musical style before releasing his debut album, Proto, in 2005. The changes he made since his first two EPs worked in his favor, and he won several awards including Best Alternative Work 2005 from the Hong Kong Composers and Lyricists Association. He also began pursuing acting and appeared in TV series and films over the course of his career. After the release of his fourth album, Why (2008), Juno Mak focused on his award-winning acting career and took an eight-year break from recording. He returned with his fifth album, Evil Is a Point of View, in 2016. The following year, he released The Album: Part One, the first in a trio of compilations that also included The Album and the Rest Of It (2019) and The Album and the End of It (2020). His next studio album, Chapel of Dawn, was released in 2022. In January 2024, he released the single “Gold List Title,” which was an adventurous eight-minute track featuring Sophy Wong.
