The Northern Territories is an electronic music project founded in 1992 in Uppsala, Sweden, by John Alexander Ericson and Stefan Sääf. The duo initially gained traction with their synth-pop compositions, releasing their debut EP Midnight Ambulance through the Berlin-based label Machinery on May 24th, 1994. Their subsequent albums, Orange Moon (1997) and Satellite People (1999), saw a gradual shift towards incorporating acoustic instruments, moving away from their electronic roots. In the early 2000s, Ericson began his solo career with albums like Songs For Quiet Souls (2004), Savannah Songs (2004), and Black Clockworks (2006). He also formed the duo My Empire Of Sound, releasing The Confession Of The Machines in 2013. After a 25-year hiatus, The Northern Territories returned with the single "In Our Darkest Hour (Something New Is Born)" and released A Star in Orbit Still in 2025.
