Cathy Young, born in 1951 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, is a Canadian singer-songwriter who emerged at a very early age, singing publicly by age three and busking as a teenager. Her breakthrough came after a May 1967 Queen's Park love-in, when she was signed by manager Shel Safran, leading to the release of her debut album A Spoonful of Cathy Young in April 1969 on Mainstream Records. The album was named Billboard magazine's Pick of the Week in May 1969. In 1973, she followed with the album Travel Stained on GRT Records, and her career included international performances across the United States, Mexico, Hong Kong, and Australia. She also released the archive album Young, Live & Rare (2016). Young won the 1974 Juno Award for Most Promising Female Vocalist of the Year and received a 1975 nomination for Female Vocalist of the Year. In November 2017, her image was featured on a 220-foot mural of Yonge Street music icons.
