Scrawl is an American indie rock band formed in Columbus, Ohio, in 1985. The group initially consisted of guitarist and vocalist Marcy Mays, bassist and backing vocalist Sue Harshe, and drummer Carolyn O'Leary. The band's origins trace back to the dissolution of Mays' previous group, Skull. Scrawl released their debut album Plus, Also, Too (1987), which garnered critical acclaim and led to a deal with Rough Trade Records. Their subsequent albums, He's Drunk (1988) and Smallmouth (1990), were well-received but faced distribution issues due to the label's bankruptcy. In 1993, after O'Leary’s departure and Dana Marshall joining as drummer, Scrawl released Velvet Hammer. The band moved to Elektra Records for Travel On, Rider (1996) and Nature Film (1998), both of which were underpromoted. Scrawl toured with drummer Jovan Karcic, who joined in 2007.
