Women in Docs was formed in 1998 in Townsville, Queensland, by Chanel Marie Lucas (lead vocalist and guitarist) and Roslyn "Roz" Pappalardo (lead vocalist, guitarist and harmonica player). The duo began as folk-pop friends from James Cook University and released a six-track debut EP women in docs in October 1998, followed by the EP www.womenindocs.com in 2000. Their first studio album, Under a Different Sky, appeared in 2001 on Um & Ah Records, featuring the single "Crown St" and gaining national ABC airplay. In 2006, they released Red Wine and Postcards on their own label, produced by Darren Middleton, and toured the United States, Canada, and Europe. After a hiatus from 2009 to 2011, the duo returned and signed with Plus One Records, issuing Carousel in 2015. They have been compared to the Indigo Girls and The Waifs for their harmonised folk-rock sound.
