Gianluigi Gasparetti, known professionally as Oöphoi, was born on March 26, 1958, in Rome, Italy, and was an Italian ambient and electronic musician. His career began with the release of Static Soundscapes: Three Lights At The End Of The World in 1996, marking his debut in the ambient music scene. In 1998, Oöphoi released three albums: The Spirals Of Time, Night Currents, and Behind The Wall Of Sleep. His work often integrated meditative and spiritual contexts, utilizing synths, singing bowls, flutes, and processed voices. Notable collaborations included projects with Mathias Grassow, Amir Baghiri, Klaus Wiese, Tau Ceti, L.E.M., Paul Vnuk Jr., Perceptual Defence, and Paradin. Oöphoi's discography spans over a dozen albums released between 1996 and 2013, including compilations like Time Fragments Vol. 1 - The Archives 1995/1997 and Whispers from the Noisy Void. He also edited Deep Listenings, an Italian magazine dedicated to ambient and deep atmospheric music, featuring interviews with prominent artists such as Steve Roach and Michael Stearns. Oöphoi passed away on April 12, 2013, after a long illness.
