Desiree Carole Heslop, known professionally as Princess, was born on November 28, 1961, in the United Kingdom. She began her career as a backing vocalist for various artists and bands, including Osibisa, before transitioning to a solo artist. Her breakthrough came with the hit single "Say I'm Your Number One", which reached the UK Top 10 in 1985. This success led to her debut album Princess, produced by Stock Aitken Waterman, which included four additional charting singles and was certified Silver in the UK. In 1987, Princess released her second album All for Love under Polydor Records, though it did not achieve significant success. She continued to release music intermittently, including standalone singles like "Lover Don't Go" (1989) and "Sweet Money" (2008). Her third album, The Emergence, was released in 2014 as part of a planned trilogy. Throughout her career, Princess collaborated with various artists and labels, including Vanilla Ice on his album To the Extreme in 1990. Princess relaunched her career in 2003 with her brother Donovan, releasing “Ride” with rap group E.E.D.B. and appearing on ITV’s Hit Me, Baby, One More Time in 2005. She returned with her third album, The Emergence (2014), her first in 27 years and part of a planned trilogy with The Passion and The One. She later issued the EP The Passion Part 1 (2019), teased new material with “Silhouettes in the Dark” (2021), and released “Will You Call Me” in 2023.
