Tasha T has spent more than two decades treating reggae as both an art form and a public responsibility. The Canadian-Jamaican recording artiste, songwriter, producer and philanthropist brings melody, conviction and cultural awareness into music shaped by roots reggae, Rastafari and the everyday experiences of navigating a world of systemic inequalities.
Known as “The Musical Ambassador,” Tasha T moves effortlessly between singing and reggae’s deejay tradition. Her warm, soulful vocals lend themselves to songs of faith, love and renewal, while her rhythmic lyrical delivery gives weight to social commentary. It is a balance that has become central to her identity: music that offers spiritual healing and comfort in one moment and challenges complacency in the next.
Her career began gaining recognition in Toronto when she received the Best Female Newcomer award in 1999. National attention followed with two JUNO Award nominations. “Dem Need More Love” was nominated for Best Reggae Recording in 2001, while her album Real Talk earned a Reggae Recording of the Year nomination in 2015.
Released as her second album, Real Talk placed her full range on display. Across 17 tracks, she combined roots reggae, singjay technique, deejaying and social observation, addressing education, relationships, spirituality, family and conditions affecting vulnerable communities. The album also brought together respected producers including Mikey Bennett, Bobby Digital, Computer Paul, Orville “Rorey” Baker, Syl Gordon and Paul “Patchy” Wright. United Reggae described the project as a collection in which each song carried its own perspective while remaining grounded in Rastafari, cultural reflection and social purpose
Tasha T’s work outside the recording studio is equally important to her story. In 2012, she received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in recognition of her service to her community and Canada. Her commitment to young people has included more than a decade as Musical Ambassador for the Read Across Jamaica Foundation, where she has used performance and conversation to encourage literacy, constructive decision-making and greater self-belief. That work later inspired the establishment of the Tasha T Learning Foundation.
Her humanitarian recording “Spread Some Love” earned the Compete for Peace, Not War award presented through World Citizen Artists, The Bob Marley Foundation and its campaign partners. The song subsequently became part of her outreach against violence and cyberbullying, including participation in the Bob Marley Foundation’s socially aware school tour in Jamaica. Her involvement went beyond performing. She spoke directly with students about online behaviour, friendship, accountability and the importance of seeking help when confronted by bullying.
That connection between recording and service has travelled with her across international stages. Tasha T has performed throughout Canada, Jamaica, the United States, the United Kingdom and Ethiopia. Her Ethiopian appearances included concerts in Addis Ababa, Shashamane, Hawassa and Bahir Dar, as well as participation in the Great Ethiopian Child Race. She has also been invited to share stages with Alpha Blondy and the ‘Queen of Reggae’ Marcia Griffiths, performed alongside an orchestra under Canadian conductor Boris Brott, and appeared at cultural events that have placed reggae in conversation with education, history and community life. Her 2025 activities included performances during a United Kingdom tour, with appearances at City Splash, the Fox & Firkin, Notting Hill Carnival and the Brent Black Music Co-op Blue Plaque Ceremony.
In 2026, Tasha T entered an exciting new era in her musical career with the introduction of her most expansive recording project to date, the One World album. Presented as a two part album, the project captures the breadth of her artistry while exploring faith, resilience, gratitude and collective responsibility. Its first single, “Ten Foot Wall,” was released in early February through RasVibe Records Inc. and Islandyard Productions. The spiritually grounded track examines obstacles that may appear insurmountable, reminding listeners that faith and determination can provide the strength needed to overcome them.
One World allows the two sides of Tasha T’s artistry to stand on their own. Chapter 1, scheduled for release on August 14, 2026, centres melody, communal strength, joy and perseverance. Chapter 2 follows on September 4, turning toward percussive deejay flows, social scrutiny and the urgency of collective action. Released through RasVibe Records Inc. in collaboration with Islandyard Productions and distributed by VPAL Music, the project offers one vision through two distinct musical languages.
Also released in 2026, “One Jamaica” brought Tasha T together with 33 prominent Jamaican artistes for a patriotic ensemble recording produced by Paul “Patchy” Wright and centred on national pride and unity. Distributed by Tuff Gong International. The song supports the American Friends of Jamaica, with proceeds benefiting charitable initiatives serving Jamaicans in need.
With the release of One World, she stands firmly in the purpose that has guided her career for more than two decades. She is an artiste who understands that longevity is not measured only by years, awards or performances, but by the lives reached and the conversations a song can begin. Whether addressing injustice, strengthening faith, encouraging young people or celebrating the ties that connect humanity, she continues to use reggae with intention. One World is both the culmination of that journey and the beginning of a bold new chapter, affirming Tasha T as a distinctive cultural voice whose music carries substance, spirit and a message that extends far beyond the stage.
