Brian Derek Thompson, born in Birmingham, England, and Patrick Anthony Morrison, born in Manchester, Jamaica, formed the Jamaican reggae duo Brian & Tony Gold in Portmore, Saint Catherine. After competing in Kingston’s 1986 Tastee Talent Competition-where Thompson won twice and Morrison placed second-they combined their close harmonies to launch their career. Their debut single, "Ebony Eyes", appeared on the Red Rock Label in 1987, followed by "What's Your Name", "Bullseye", and "Sweet Baby" on King Jammy’s Records and Bobby Digital’s imprint. The duo’s 1992 release "Can You" addressed South Africa’s apartheid, broadening their appeal. Their 1994 single "Compliments on Your Kiss" under Red Dragon peaked at number 2 on the UK Singles Chart and entered the Billboard charts. In 2002, the collaboration "Hey Sexy Lady" with Orville Richard Burrell, released by Big Yard Music Group, reached number 3 on Belgium’s Ultratop 50 Flanders and later became France’s 110th best‑selling single of the 21st century with 287,000 units sold. The group’s later releases include the 2004 album Hot Gyal – Riddim Driven and the 2007 maxi Irresistible.
