Dieter Manderscheid was born on March 31, 1956, in Trier, Germany, and is a German jazz bassist. From 1977 to 1984, he studied music in Saarbrücken and Cologne, after which he began performing in various ensembles, including a duo with Frank Gratkowski. His first major recording appeared on Moers Duisburg Köln with Wittek, Kaiser, and Manderscheid (1984), and he continued to release albums such as Amman Boutz (1989) and Chicago Breakdown (1990) with Thomas Heberer. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, he collaborated with the Syntopia Quartet and performed at festivals such as Tampere Jazz Happening. In 1990, he received the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik, and since 2002 he has held a professorship for jazz double bass at the Hochschule für Musik Köln. In 2020, he collaborated with Frank Paul Schubert, Dieter Manderscheid, and Martin Blume on the album titled Spindrift.
