Dan Balan is a Moldovan musician and record producer born as Dan Bălan on February 6, 1979, in Chișinău, Moldavian SSR, Soviet Union. He reached global prominence as the founder of the ensemble O-Zone and the writer of the single "Dragostea din tei" (2003), which sold 12 million copies worldwide and topped the charts in 32 countries. Following the group's dissolution in 2005, he relocated to Los Angeles to record an unreleased rock album before launching the alter-ego Crazy Loop in 2007. His recording career included the single "Crazy Loop (Mm-Ma-Ma)" (2007), which charted in Germany, Austria, Poland, and Romania, and the studio recording The Power of Shower (2007). Balan released the single "Chica Bomb" (2010), featuring the singer Katie DiCicco, which reached number 7 on the UK Dance Chart. His discography included the studio recording Freedom, Part 1 (2012) and the studio recording Freedom, Part 2 (2021). He has collaborated with musicians including Eleni Foureira, Vera Brezhneva, and Corey Gibson. Balan reached professional recognition in 2009 when he received the honorary title of Master of Arts from the Moldovan government and became the first Moldovan nominated for a Grammy Award. He has received three Golden Gramophone Awards.
