Martin James Ziggy Norman Riley, known as Jimmy Riley, was born on May 22, 1947, in Jonestown, Kingston, Jamaica. He formed The Sensations, achieving success with singles like "Everyday is Just a Holiday" and "Those Guys". After leaving the group, he joined Slim Smith and Lloyd Charmers in The Uniques, where they had hits such as "Watch This Sound" and "My Conversation". Riley's solo career began with producer Bunny Lee. He produced several hits in the 1970s and 1980s, including a cover of Marvin Gaye's "Sexual Healing" which topped the UK reggae chart in 1983. In the late 1980s, Riley moved to Miami but returned to Jamaica in the early 1990s, collaborating with his son Tarrus on albums like Sly and Robbie Presents Jimmy Riley: Pull Up Selector (2008) and Contradiction (2013). Jimmy Riley passed away on March 23, 2016, in New York from cancer.
