Birchville Cat Motel is a one-man experimental music project from Wellington, New Zealand, established by musician Campbell Kneale. He reached wider visibility through international tours in Japan, Australia, Europe, and the United States. His recording career began with the debut vinyl single "Jewelled Wings" through the label Freedom From. Kneale has used the project for collaborations with musicians including Lee Ranaldo, Neil Campbell, and Bruce Russell. He subsequently established and operated the labels Celebrate Psi Phenomenon and Battlecruiser, which have released recordings by artists including Matthew Bower, Richard Youngs, and Alex Neilson. After being active for ten years, Kneale disbanded the project in 2009 to focus on the project Our Love Will Destroy the World. Kneale has also performed using the monikers Black Boned Angel, Brilliant Swords, and Ming.
