Wu Yingyin was born as Wu Jianqiu on August 31, 1922, in Shanghai and died on December 17, 2009, in Los Angeles, California. She was a Chinese singer who became prominent in the 1940s as one of the seven great singing stars of the era. Known as the Queen of the Nasal Voice, she signed with Pathé Records in 1946 and released her debut hit single “I Want to Forget You”, also known as “Wo Xiang Wang Le Ni”. Her classic songs included “The Bright Moon Sends My Love Across a Thousand Miles”, also known as “Ming Yue Qian Li Ji Xiang Si”, “Spring's Return to Earth”, “Heartbreak”, and “Fine Spring Night”. She relocated to Hong Kong in 1957, and later immigrated to Pasadena, California, in 1984. She toured and performed internationally across Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Canada, and the United States until her farewell concert at the Hong Kong Coliseum in 2000.
