This Ascension, a gothic/ethereal rock band from Santa Barbara, Southern California, formed in 1988. The group released their first album, Tears In Rain, in 1989 on Tess Records, followed by Light And Shade in 1991 and Walk Softly, A Dream Lies Here in 1994. They toured extensively across the United States from 1994 to 1997, sharing stages with notable acts such as The Jesus and Mary Chain and Pixies. In 1999, they released their final album, Sever, before Tess Records ceased operations in 2001. This Ascension then signed with Projekt Records, which re-released their back catalog. After a period of inactivity, the band reunited for several shows in 2004 and 2015, and released a compilation album, Deeper And Further Away, in 2014. Their cover of "Carol Of The Bells" was featured on ABC TV show Brothers & Sisters in 2010.
