Rick Margitza, born October 24, 1961, in Dearborn, Michigan, is a jazz tenor saxophonist. He started playing violin at four, taught by his Hungarian Gypsy violinist grandfather, and later played piano and oboe before settling on tenor saxophone. In the 1980s, Margitza toured with Maynard Ferguson and Flora Purim. He moved to New York City in 1988 and began playing with Miles Davis. Between 1989 and 1991, he released three albums for Blue Note Records: Color, Hope, and This Is New. Margitza has collaborated with notable artists such as Eddie Gómez, Tony Williams, Bobby Hutcherson, Maria Schneider, McCoy Tyner, and Chick Corea. Since moving to Paris in 2003, he has performed with various musicians, including Martial Solal, François Moutin, Louis Moutin, Ari Hoenig, Franck Amsallem, Jean-Michel Pilc, and Manuel Rocheman.
