The Sunshine Underground, a Leeds‑based indie‑rock group formed while members studied at New College Telford, emerged in the mid‑2000s with the single "Put You in Your Place" (Jyly 2005) and the single "I Ain't Losing Any Sleep" (May 2006). The band released its debut album Raise the Alarm in December 2006, followed by the single "Commercial Breakdown" (January 2007) and "Put You in Your Place", establishing a presence on the UK festival circuit, including performances at Glastonbury’s Other Stage and the Future Stage at T in the Park. In 2009 the group issued the EP Everything, Right Now (November 2009) and, after a brief hiatus, released the second album Nobody's Coming to Save You (February 2010) through City Rockers, which reached number 86 on the UK Albums Chart. The same year saw singles such as "We've Always Been Your Friends" and "Borders". Bassist Daley Smith departed in 2011, after which the trio recorded the third album The Sunshine Underground (June 2014). The Sunshine Underground disbanded following the release of the fourth album, Luminescent (September 2016). They reunited briefly in 2026.
