Hans Philipp August Albers was a German singer and actor. Born on September 22, 1891, in Hamburg, German Empire, he grew up in the district of St. Georg and developed an early interest in acting. He gained notoriety as a comic actor in Berlin with his role in the play Verbrecher. He transitioned to film, starring in over one hundred silent movies before appearing in Germany's first sound film, Die Nacht gehört uns, in 1929. He achieved fame with roles in films like Der Greifer (1930) and collaborated with Heinz Rühmann in Bomben auf Monte Carlo (1931) and Der Mann, der Sherlock Holmes war (1937). Many of his songs became hits, including “Hoppla, jetzt komm' ich” (1932), “La Paloma” (1944), and “Auf der Reeperbahn nachts um halb eins” (1944). He died on July 24, 1960, in Starnberg, Germany.
