Günter Maier, also known as Günter Noris, was born on June 5, 1935, in Bad Kissingen, Germany, and was a German bandleader, pianist, arranger, and composer. He studied piano and composition at the Bayerischen Staatskonservatorium in Würzburg. Initially performing as a jazz musician, he joined the RIAS Tanzorchester in Berlin in 1961. In 1967, he moved to the WDR-Tanzorchester in Cologne, leading successful tours including a notable trip to Japan in 1968. He founded the Big Band der Bundeswehr in 1971 and left in 1983 to form his own Gala Big Band. His contributions were recognized with awards including the Deutscher Schallplattenpreis in 1979 and the Bundesverdienstkreuz in 1984. He passed away on November 27, 2007, in Kerpen, North Rhine-Westphalia.
