Bradford Alexander Mehldau, also known as Brad Mehldau, was born on August 23, 1970, in Jacksonville, Florida, and is an American jazz pianist, composer, and arranger. After studying at The New School and touring with saxophonist Joshua Redman, he formed his first long‑term trio in 1994 with bassist Larry Grenadier and drummer Jorge Rossy, and released Introducing Brad Mehldau in 1995. The trio’s debut album The Art of the Trio, Volume One (1997) established a distinctive blend of standards and originals, followed by Songs (1998) and several live recordings from the Village Vanguard. In 2002, he expanded beyond trio work with Largo, incorporating electronics and rock influences, and later collaborated with Pat Metheny, Renée Fleming, and Anne Sofie von Otter. Subsequent releases include Anything Goes (2004), House on Hill (2006), and Finding Gabriel (2019), which won Best Jazz Instrumental Album in 2020.
