Downhere was a Canadian Christian rock ensemble from Caronport established in 1999. They achieved professional recognition for a musical career characterized by Christian rock and alternative rock and for receiving several Juno Awards. The ensemble was founded by the vocalist Marc Martel and the vocalist Jason Germain while they were roommates at Briercrest Bible College. Their recording career began with the debut eponymous independent studio recording Downhere (1999) followed by an international debut re-release in 2001. Downhere achieved professional recognition for moving to Nashville in 2001 and signing with the label Word Records. Their discography included the studio recording So Much for Substitutes (2003) and the studio recording Wide-Eyed and Mystified (2006). The latter recording achieved professional recognition for receiving the Juno Award for contemporary Christian/gospel album of the year in 2007. The ensemble achieved professional recognition for the studio recording Ending Is Beginning (2008) and the studio recording On the Altar of Love (2011), both of which also received Juno Awards. The group became inactive in 2013 but achieved professional recognition for resuming activity for a performance to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Centricity Music in 2016.
