Born along the Orinoco River plains of eastern Colombia and western Venezuela is the region’s crown jewel: joropo. Cimarrón is a Joropo music ensemble led by Ana Veydó, a virtuous voice that defies the male-centric traditions from the cattle ranches of Los Llanos.
This Grammy-nominated six-piece (Best Traditional World Music Album) brings together a raw and profound ethnic experience, celebrating their Indigenous and African heritage.
Their untamed music introduces the strong voice of a woman accompanied by young master instrumentalists and their fast-paced footwork dance. A magnificent display of freedom with a harp, maracas, drums, folk guitars and deer-skull whistles.
Cimarrón is the only Colombian artist to have performed in the three major performing arts centers of East Asia: the National Centre for the Performing
Arts in Beijing (2019), the Bunkyo Theater in Tokyo, Japan (house of the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, 2024), and the Taipei National Centre for the Performing Arts in Taiwan (2025).
Their soul-shaking futurist vision of folklore has been ovationated in 43 countries across five continents, in major festivals including Colours of Ostrava (Czech Republic), Mawazine Festival (Morocco), Rainforest World Music Festival (Malaysia), Rudolstadt Festival (Germany), Paléo Festival (Switzerland), Rajasthan International Folk Music Festival, Abu Dhabi Culture & Heritage Festival, two editions of Førde Festival (Norway), the Biennial of Flamenco (Netherlands), Newport Folk Festival, and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.
