Fleshwrought, formerly known as “Fleshrot”, was an American technical death metal, progressive death metal, and avant-garde metal band from Santa Cruz, California. Formed in 2003 by Navene Koperweis, the project featured Koperweis as a multi-instrumentalist who engineered, produced, and performed all instrumental parts. Koperweis initially recorded a demo with Nic Gauthier. A live lineup featured Chase Fraser, but activity slowed due to Koperweis’s touring schedule with the band Animosity. After moving to San Francisco, Koperweis met Jonny Davy of Job for a Cowboy and invited him to join the project. Fleshwrought signed to Metal Blade Records and released the debut album Dementia/Dyslexia in 2010. The group integrated influences from electronic, progressive rock, and experimental music, citing artists such as Necrophagist, Frank Zappa, and Squarepusher. Fleshwrought was reported to be working on a second album in 2014 before becoming inactive.
