La Crus is an Italian rock ensemble from Milan established in 1993. They achieved professional recognition for a musical style characterized by rock and musica d'autore and for being formed as a side project of the ensemble The Carnival of Fools. The ensemble consists of the vocalist Mauro Ermanno Giovanardi and the chitarrista and claviériste Cesare Malfatti. The lyricist Alessandro Cremonesi achieved professional recognition for serving as a member who did not perform in public. Their recording career began with the debut eponymous studio recording La Crus (1995). The recording achieved professional recognition for receiving the Premio Ciampi and the Targa Tenco for best debut album. La Crus achieved professional recognition for the cover recording Crocevia (2001), which received a Targa Tenco in the performers category. The group became inactive in 2008 following the release of the live recording Io non credevo che questa sera. The ensemble achieved professional recognition for resuming activity in 2011 to participate in the Sanremo Music Festival with the song “Io confesso” and for a formal reunion in 2023. Their discography included a new version of “Io confesso” (2023) recorded as a duet with the musician Carmen Consoli and the studio recording Proteggimi da ciò che voglio (2024).
