Ativin is an American post-rock and math rock ensemble from Bloomington established in 1994. They achieved professional recognition for a musical style characterized by slowcore and instrumental rock and for a core lineup featuring the guitarist Chris Carothers and the guitarist Dan Burton. Their recording career began with a self-released demo recording in 1995 and the debut extended play Pills Versus Planes (1996) released on the label Polyvinyl Record Co. Ativin achieved professional recognition for the debut studio recording German Water (1999) released on the label Secretly Canadian and the studio recording Interiors (2002). Their discography included the studio recording Night Mute (2004) and the digital single “Mountain Visions” (2023) featuring guest vocals by Natasha Noramly. The ensemble achieved professional recognition for the studio recording Austere (2023) which featured loops by the musician Mattia Ferrarini. The group became inactive on multiple occasions between 1999 and 2021 but achieved professional recognition for resuming activity with the drummer Chris Brokaw.
