Rovo, a Japanese instrumental group, was formed in 1996 in Tokyo by guitarist Seiichi Yamamoto of Boredoms, electric violinist Yuji Katsui of Bondage Fruit, and synthesizer/effects technician Tatsuki Masuko, with Yasuhiro Yoshigaki and Youichi Okabe on drums and percussion and Jin Harada on bass guitar. The band’s early releases include Pico! (1998) and Imago (1999), establishing a “man‑drive trance” sound that blended minimalism, progressive rock, and psychedelia. In 2013 the group collaborated with System 7 on the album Phoenix Rising, released under Wonderground Music. Subsequent releases include XI (2016) and Rovo (2020).
