Jean-François Paul Siberil, known as Soïg Sibéril, was born on February 1, 1955, in Bois-Colombes, France. A guitarist of Breton culture, he began playing guitar at 18 and moved to Brittany in the mid-1970s. His career took off when he met Irish guitarist Mícheál Ó Domhnaill, who introduced him to open tuning, which he adapted into his music. Sibéril's professional journey started in the late 1970s with groups like Kanfarted Rostren and Skrilled. In 1980, he co-founded Kornog, a quartet of Breton and Celtic music, which toured extensively and released five albums. He also formed Gwerz, recording three albums. Throughout his career, Sibéril collaborated with artists including Denez Prigent, Dan ar Braz, and Nolwenn Korbell, releasing notable works such as Red (2007). His solo career included albums like Digor (1993) and Entre Ardoise et Granit (1999). He passed away on April 6, 2025, in Carhaix-Plouguer, Finistère.
