Dawn Of The Replicants were formed in 1996 in Galashiels, Scotland, by Paul Vickers and Roger Simian, who had previously collaborated on the short‑lived music magazine Sun Zoom Spark; the group later expanded to a quintet with Grant Pringle, Mike Small, and Donald Kyle. Their first commercial breakthrough came with the mail‑order EP So Far So Spitfire in December 1996, which received significant airplay from BBC Radio 1 DJs John Peel and Mark Radcliffe. In 1998 the band released their debut album One Head, Two Arms, Two Legs, featuring the single "Candlefire", which peaked at number 52 on the UK Singles Chart; the follow‑up single "Hogwash Farm" reached number 65. The same year they performed at Glastonbury and Reading. After signing with East West Records, they issued Wrong Town, Wrong Planet, Three Hours Late in 1999, though sales were weaker and Warner Bros. dropped them. A brief hiatus saw Paul Vickers and Roger Simian release material as Pluto Monkey in 2000. The band returned in 2002 with The Extra Room, and in 2004 released Fangs on SL Records, touring extensively and recording sessions for BBC Radio 1 and 6 Music. In 2006 they celebrated a decade with a 22‑track singles collection, the first 1,000 copies including a DVD of live footage and interviews; subsequent recordings were made for a sixth studio album in early 2007.
