Stefan Betke, known professionally as Pole, is a German dub-techno musician and producer who was born in 1967. He played keyboard and synthesizer in various bands before beginning a solo career in the mid-1990s. His musical style originated from the crackling sound of a defective Waldorf 4-Pole analog filter. He worked as a mastering engineer at Dubplates & Mastering in Berlin before establishing his own studio, Scape Mastering. In 1999, he founded the label ~scape with Barbara Preisinger. His debut studio album, 1, was released (1998), followed by 2 (1999) and 3 (2000). His later recordings include the albums Pole (2003), Steingarten (2007), Wald (2015), Fading (2020), and Tempus (2022). His discography also includes the EPs Tanzen (1998) and Waldgeschichten (2011).
