Fourth of July, an indie rock band from Lawrence, Kansas, was formed in 2001. Frontman Brendan Hangauer began writing songs as early as 1999, initially for a solo project, but the band coalesced and started performing live in 2002. Their debut album, Fourth of July on the Plains, was released in 2007 under Range Life Records. The band's lineup included Brendan Hangauer on vocals and guitar, Patrick Hangauer on bass, Kelly Hangauer on keys, trumpet, and vocals, Brian Costello on drums, and Brendan Costello on guitar. They gained early traction through posting videos on YouTube. Subsequent albums include Before Our Hearts Explode! in 2010 and Empty Moon in 2013.
