Irvine Arditti is a British violinist born in 1953 in London. He attended the Central Foundation Boys' School and entered the Royal Academy of Music at age 16 where he studied with Clarence Myerscough and Manoug Parikian. In 1976, he joined the London Symphony Orchestra and was appointed its Co-Concert Master in 1978. Arditti left the orchestra in 1980 to focus on the Arditti Quartet, which he had established while a student. During his career, he has given the world premieres of numerous works written for him, including compositions by Iannis Xenakis, Toshio Hosokawa and Brian Ferneyhough. His recording history included more than 30 solo albums and more than 200 recordings with the Arditti Quartet. In 2007, his recording of Luciano Berio’s violin “Sequenza” received the Deutsche Schallplattenpreis. The Arditti Quartet received the Ernst von Siemens Music Prize in 1999. In 2014, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Huddersfield.
