Mihoko Fujimura (藤村実穂子) is a Japanese operatic mezzo-soprano who established an international career based in Europe. Born in 1966 in the Gifu Prefecture, Fujimura studied at the Tokyo University of the Arts and the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München. Fujimura entered the international scene with a 2002 debut as Fricka in Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen at the Bayreuth Festival, subsequently performing festival roles including Waltraute and Erda, as well as Brangäne in Tristan und Isolde and Kundry in Parsifal. Fujimura’s discography includes a 2002 recording of Wagner’s Die Walküre conducted by Zubin Mehta, a 2005 recording of Tristan und Isolde under Antonio Pappano, and a 2011 recording of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with Kent Nagano. In 2020, Fujimura debuted at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City as Mary in Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer. Fujimura received the designation of Person of Cultural Merit on October 25, 2024.
