Kinski, an American rock band from Seattle, Washington, was formed in 1998 when bartender and drummer Dave Weeks joined guitarist Chris Martin and bassist Lucy Atkinson after overhearing their conversation about analog recording. The trio began performing live the same year and added guitarist/keyboardist/flautist Matthew Reid Schwartz to the lineup by the end of 1999. Their debut release, Space Launch for Frenchie, was self-released in 1999. In early 2002, Weeks left the band and was replaced by Barrett Wilke on drums. They signed with Sub Pop and released their third album, Airs Above Your Station, in 2003. The band toured extensively throughout the US, Europe, and Japan, opening for notable acts like Tool. In 2015, they released 7 (or 8) on Kill Rock Stars. In 2025, they released Stumbledown Terrace, their first album as a trio following Schwartz's departure, marking a significant shift in their lineup and sound.
