Grand Archives was an American indie rock ensemble formed in 2006 in Seattle. The group was led by singer-songwriter Mat Brooke, formerly of Carissa's Wierd and Band of Horses. The band emerged in 2007 by posting tracks to its MySpace page, including the recording “Sleepdriving”, which appeared on the Pitchfork Forkcast playlist. Following several west-coast tour dates supporting Modest Mouse, the ensemble signed with Sub Pop. Its discography included the studio recordings The Grand Archives (2008) and Keep in Mind Frankenstein (2009). The group toured the United States and Europe and appeared on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. During a 2010 tour, Brooke previewed tracks for a proposed third album titled Villains. The ensemble released the recordings Villains Demos I & II as free downloads between 2010 and 2011. The band entered an indefinite hiatus subsequently.
