Markku Aro, born February 3, 1950, is a Finnish pop singer born in Mouhijärvi. One of Finland's most popular pop artists of the 1970s, he launched his recording career in 1968 after being discovered in local singing competitions. Aro represented Finland at the 1971 Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Tie uuteen päivään," finishing eighth, and also competed in the Finnish Eurovision selection several other times. His best-known hits include "Hyvännäköinen," "Moskiitto," "Jestas sentään," "Oma kultasein," and "Keskiyön aikaan." Over a career spanning more than five decades, he has continued recording and performing, releasing numerous albums, with Etsin kunnes löydän sun (1976) becoming his best-selling record. Aro has also appeared on television, including Tähdet, tähdet in 2015.
