Gilles Le Bigot was born in 1959 in Saint-Brieuc, France. He began playing guitar at the age of 13, exploring rock, jazz, and baroque folk music before focusing on Celtic and Breton traditions. Known for his distinctive guitar style using the DADGAD open tuning, Le Bigot first gained recognition touring with Galorn from 1978 to 1980. He later established himself through groups such as Skolvan and the Barzaz Trio, while also collaborating with international artists including Donal Lunny and Karen Matheson. In 2003, he released his solo album Empreintes, featuring original compositions alongside a traditional piece. Other notable albums include Empreintes #2 (2011) and Bale (2023).
