Splash was a South African soul, folk, and pop band formed in Soweto in 1985. The group was led by vocalist and bassist Dan Tshanda, who was born in Matangari, Venda, and previously worked as a newspaper vendor and taxi driver before recording a demo cassette. They released their debut album, Mr. Tony, in 1985 through Gallo Records. Although the release was not successful, Hamilton Nzimande gave the group another opportunity, resulting in their breakthrough album, Peacock, in 1986. Their subsequent studio albums included Snake in 1987, Money in 1988, Tshokotshoko in 1989, Eye for an Eye in 1990, Nesindande in 1991, and Cellular in 1995. The band's career ended following Tshanda's death in 2019.
